further product development, the analysis of their hindering effect on different microbial organisms is essential, as the product’s field of use is basically determined by the effect spectrum. In accordance with their planned utilization, we intend to test the most intensively their activity against algae in their broadest sense (fluorescent water organisms) and filamentous fungi (mould) in the framework of this project. Apart from this, we also aim to analyse their mechanism of action.
By the end of the project, we will have analytical methods corresponding to the industrial standards for the measurement of relevant small molecule compounds from horseradish (glucosinolates and isothiocyanates) as well as peroxidase activity and content, using the equipment of the University of Debrecen.
The research will be carried out by Kelet Product Zrt. in cooperation with the Department of Botany of the University of Debrecen and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA). It will also contain the analysis of the algaecide and fungicide effects of the essential oil made from horseradish.
In the framework of the project, the research will last for 16 months mainly using the equipment of Kelet Product Zrt. and the laboratories of the University of Debrecen.
Isothiocyanates, the main bioactive compounds of horseradish oil, are able to hinder the growth of several organisms in small concentration.
